Rawu means reef.
This painting is of the vast range of colours of the reef that surrounds the shallow waters of Yanyuwa sea country. I grew up going out to the Sir Edward Pellew Islands that scatter off the coast of Borroloola. My family and I would spend weeks camping on the islands during the school holidays. We would go fishing everyday, hunting for mud crabs, swimming (while being croc-wise) and eating the freshest seafood you can get.
