JARNJA - START OF THE WET SEASONS STORMS.
This painting represents the first big storm of wet season in Borroloola and the rejuvenating impact it has on the country. The first big rain fills the little creeks, rivers and billabongs that have been bone dry for months. The country begins to turn green, animals become well nourished and the fish start to bite again. This is a very exciting and happy time of the year for my mob.
As you can see in the painting, the flood water is represented through the blue streams of water flowing down a dry river bed. This then begins to change the country by filling in the little creeks that can be seen on the top left and help the plants flourish and get their colour back. Then when the sun shines, everything looks brand new and fresh, but the clouds always stick around - this can been seen behind the sun.
